They met songwriter Angelo Petraglia who helped them hone their skills as songwriters and provided influence from the Rolling Stones, The Clask and Thin Lizzy and six months later, they signed with RCA Records and expanded the band in to a foursome. The name Kings of Leon was created in honor of an uncle and grandfather.
During the 2003, they released the “Holy Roller Novocain” EP on 18 February that received four out of five stars from Rolling Stone magazine. Their 2003 album, released in the UK and US in August entitled, “Youth and Young Manhood” earned them a name and reputation with the help of known producer Ethan Johns. Despite some criticism, the album was well received and hailed in the UK and Ireland as the best album in 10 years. The Kings of Leon started making a name, travelling and opening for U2 and the Strokes on tour later that year
The second album from Kings of Leon was release in the UK in October 2004 and February 2005, entitled “Aha Shake Heartbreak” lifted the band sky high from the domestic to international. The album and its three singles were produced with the help of Angelo Petraglia and Ethan Johns.
Their 2007 album, “Because of the Times” and its only single “On Call” were both hits that shot straight to the top. The single sold over 70,000 copies in Britain and Ireland in less than a week. Their fourth album, released in 2008 entitled “Only by the Night” carved a path to the top of the UK Charts, and its singles did likewise in the UK. In the USA they rose to number 4 on the Billboard as it became one of the best selling albums in the UK and Australia for the year 2008.
On the 10th of November, 2009 at Live at the O2 in London, England the band had their first DVD coming out and it was released on Blu-Ray on Nov. 24th.
